Overheating Car - Causes and Short - Term Solutions

Engine overheating occurs not only in summer but also during daily driving. Especially in fast-moving cars, engines and air conditioning systems, boiling can occur if the water temperature is too high. It is dangerous to overheat the engine. This can cause an accident which can damage the engine. If the water temperature indicator enters the red zone and remains high when driving at high speed or boarding a car, take appropriate action. This solves the problem of engine overheating.

There are many reasons for overheating, including insufficient coolant, fan, thermostat and coolant temperature sensor malfunction. If not handled correctly, this can lead to costly engine failure. Therefore, timely detection and correct elimination of overheating can effectively reduce losses.

What is the impact of engine overheating on the engine?

1. a decrease in ventilation efficiency, resulting in lower engine performance.

2. Increased tendency to pre-ignition and deflagration, which interrupts normal engine operation but also causes premature damage due to additional shock loads on parts.

3. Normal clearance of moving parts is destroyed in such a way that the parts cannot move normally or may even be damaged.

4. The mechanical properties of the metal material are reduced, resulting in deformation of the part.

5. Deteriorating lubrication increases friction and wear of parts.

What causes engine overheating?

First, poor engine cooling: poor engine cooling can make the water temperature in the tank too high. If the water tank is used for a longer period of time, more deposits are formed inside the tank, which leads to poor heat dissipation in the radiator. Water at too high a temperature will not give off heat and will turn into a "pan". In addition, ventilation of radiators is also a common cause of poor heat dispersion. If an external obstacle is not ventilated, use a water pistol to clean it. If the inside of the radiator is blocked, clean it with a cleaning solution.

Secondly, the cooling system does not work properly, which leads to poor heat dispersion. At this point, make sure that the fan belt is tightened tightly and that the fan blades are not deformed or broken.

Thirdly, the thermostat automatically adjusts the amount of water entering the heatsink to match the temperature of the cooling water to allow the motor to operate within the appropriate temperature range, which can help save energy. If the motor overheats, make sure that the thermostat works correctly. It starts at 70°C and opens fully at 83°C. If the height of the fully open valve is at least 9 mm, the thermostat can be placed in water to check the heating. If the thermostat cannot be opened or the degree of opening is insufficient, the thermostat must be replaced.

Finally, make sure that the motor does not switch off when overheating. If the V-belt and coolant are circulating normally, do not turn off the engine and wait until it cools down. Usually people get the impression that the engine cools down easier once the flame has burned. In fact, once the flame cools down, the radiator fans and coolant circulation stop, causing the engine to heat up. There are two spiral fans on the bumper of the engine compartment. One is a cooling fan that cools the motor while running and the other is an air conditioning fan that is used when the air conditioning is on. If the v-belt of the fan does not break when the car overheats, it is better not to turn off the engine, but to turn on the air conditioning at the same time so that the engine cools down faster.
